Job
Specification – Senior Accountant
Responsibilities:
Provides financial
information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data;
preparing reports. Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording,
verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions. (Includes the supervision
of accounting staff)
Job Duties:
Prepare and record (or
ensure documentation, preparation and recording by accounting staff of) asset,
liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account
information.
Maintain and balance any
applicable subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling
transactions and resolving discrepancies.
Maintain general
ledger, prepare a trial balance and reconcile entries. Reconciliation of loan
book to accounting records integral.
Produce and process
staff payroll.
Complete monthly audit
file reconciliations.
Provide information
and schedules for auditors.
Ensure compliance with
regulations.
Prepare monthly VAT
and WHT returns and obtain WHT certificates from ZRA and distribute to
suppliers.
Summarize current
financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and
loss statement, and other reports.
Substantiate financial
transactions by auditing documents.
Maintain accounting
controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
Guide accounting
clerical staff by coordinating activities and answering questions.
Reconcile financial
discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
Maintain financial
security by following internal controls.
Prepare payments by
verifying documentation and requesting disbursements.
Answer accounting
procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and
regulations.
Comply with all
regulatory requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing
adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
Prepare special
financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information
and trends.
Maintain customer
confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information
confidential.
Maintain professional
and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing
professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in
professional societies.
