Overview

Our client is a leading distributor and physical trader of petroleum products
across East and Central Africa. The Aviation Fuels Sales Manager is responsible for overseeing and growing the sales of aviation fuels to retail clients, including airports, airlines, and aviation service
providers. This role involves developing sales strategies, managing the sales team, building
relationships with key stakeholders, and ensuring the achievement of sales targets. The Aviation
Fuels Sales Manager will collaborate with the Country Manager to ensure operational
excellence, compliance, and alignment with the company’s business objectives

Key Responsibilities

Sales Strategy and Planning

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy to increase the sales of aviation
    fuels in the retail market.
  • Identify and target new business opportunities, including airlines, airports, and aviation
    service companies.
  • Drive market penetration by expanding the company’s presence in both domestic and
    international markets.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and execute promotional activities to
    support sales growth.

Team Leadership and Management

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the retail aviation fuels sales team, setting clear goals and
    performance expectations.
  • Provide coaching and development opportunities to enhance the skills and effectiveness
    of the sales team.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, offering feedback and guidance to ensure team
    members are meeting or exceeding sales targets.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key aviation clients, including airlines,
    airports, and ground service operators.
  • Ensure excellent customer service by addressing client needs, resolving issues, and
    responding to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for high-value clients, managing contract
    negotiations and closing large-scale deals.

Sales Performance and Reporting

  • Track and report on sales performance, providing regular updates to the Country
    Manager on progress toward targets.
  • Analyze sales data, market trends, and competitive activity to identify areas for
    improvement and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Prepare sales forecasts and budgets in alignment with the company’s financial goals.

Market Development

  • Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, competitor activity, and new
    opportunities for aviation fuel sales.
  • Work with the product development and marketing teams to adapt offerings based on
    market needs and customer feedback.
  • Explore partnerships with aviation companies, ground handling service providers, and
    airport authorities to strengthen the company’s market position.

Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure all aviation fuel sales operations comply with industry regulations and company
    safety standards.
  • Work closely with the safety, technical, and compliance teams to ensure safe storage,
    handling, and distribution of aviation fuels.
  • Educate clients on aviation fuel safety practices, ensuring compliance with industry
    standards.

Collaboration and Cross-functional Coordination

  • Collaborate with logistics and supply chain teams to ensure timely delivery and
    availability of aviation fuels at customer sites.
  • Coordinate with finance and operations teams to manage pricing, invoicing, and credit
    control processes.
  • Work closely with marketing and product development teams to ensure the alignment
    of aviation fuel offerings with market needs.

Pricing and Contract Management

  • Develop and negotiate pricing models and contracts for aviation fuel sales that are
    competitive and profitable.
  • Manage long-term agreements with major clients, ensuring terms are favorable for both
    parties.
  • Regularly review and update pricing strategies to reflect market changes and cost
    fluctuations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sales, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field. A
    Master’s degree or relevant certification in Aviation or Energy is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of sales experience, preferably in the aviation fuels, energy, or
    petroleum sectors, with a proven track record in managing retail sales.
  • Strong understanding of aviation fuel products, industry standards, safety regulations,
    and market dynamics.
  • Proven ability to lead a sales team and develop effective sales strategies that drive
    revenue growth.
  • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to build and maintain long-term
    partnerships with aviation clients.
  • Ability to analyze market trends, customer needs, and competitor activities to inform
    sales strategies.
  • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills, with a focus on securing long-term agreements.
  • Ability to interpret sales data, forecast trends, and develop strategies to optimize sales
    performance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present and sell
    complex technical products.
