Our client in Johannesburg, South Africa is looking for a Senior Geared Motor Assembly Supervisor to join their team for a job vacancy within the Manufacturing industry.

The primary objective of the position will be to assemble HDP-HDO series (Parallel shaft gear and Bevel helical gear) units plus auxiliary/accessories. These include motors, couplings, cooling systems, baseplate and combinations of complex client specific requirements. The candidate should be familiar with using complex measurement equipment, think outside the box, able to read engineering drawing and be mathematically sound. A hands on person is required that is able to follow standard assembly routings, have technical competence and maintain quality standards. The successful candidates must have same or similar experience able to assemble company standard products to ISO standards according to the companies QCP’s in time to meet customer requirements.
Minimum requirements for the Position:
• Trade test (fitter and turner or equivalent)
• Formal training in the assembly and handling of mechanical equipment
• Good organisational skills and the ability to multi task
• Access to transport
• The ability of interface well with people, subordinates, co-workers and management
• An understanding of and passion for customer service
• The ability to work in a pressurised environment
• Willing to go the extra mile
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written
• Able to read engineering drawings
• Able to read engineering measurement equipment
• A valid driving-, forklift and crane license will be advantageous
• Knowledge of spray painting will be advantageous
• Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, particularly in Excel
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• SAP experience or similar will be advantageous
• Previous HD gearbox assembly essential
• Previous supervisory experience is essential
Detailed Duties and Responsibilities:
ASSEMBLY & PRODUCTION:
• Receipt of the production plan as prepared by Operations
• Provide continues improvement initiatives
• Programming of the production plan in terms of priorities and capacity
• Liaising with supply chain and logistics department regarding missing components and anticipated incoming shipments
• Control of breakdowns in order to optimise service levels and minimise disruption
• Programming of CSIs (Customer Specific Instructions) as per the internal works order
• Control of consumables required in the HD Production department
• Highlight any deviations or risk as soon as identified
• Tap threads
• Fit pulleys, baseplates, guards, safety covers etc.
• Assemble and align pulleys
• Measure and set tension on v-belts
• Assemble couplings and check run-out/alignment with dial gauge.
• Check gear backlash and end play.
• Assemble gearbox to drawing
• Raise any deviation from standard to supervisor
• Install pipe work
• Heating of bearings, pressing with hydraulic jack etc.
FINISHING AND TESTING:
• Control of unit completion for the painting, plugging and lubrication of gearboxes
• Control of test and inspection procedures
• Control of quality documentation
• Ensure any specific quality inspections is communicated to team
• Set-up of test bench and measurement equipment
• Ensure Paint team provide excellent quality work
• Perform QC checks during the assembly process
• Ensure tasks performed to the companies standards
• Meeting delivery commitments.
HUMAN RESOURCES:

MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT:
• Control of general tooling issued to production
• Control of and safeguarding of special tooling
• Maintenance of machinery (HD Assembly equipment and Spray Booth)
• Servicing of machinery in terms of Statutory, manufacturers requirements and as per the maintenance schedule/matrix
PREMISES:
• Maintain a clean, neat and safe working environment
• Adhering to company policies and procedures.
• Perform and ensure team perform daily housekeeping
STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS:
• Implementation of procedures for compliance with the applicable Safety & Occupational Acts
• Maintaining personnel training records required for the use of specialised equipment
• Maintaining Safety & Occupational records
QUALITY CONTROL:
• Implementation of quality control procedures at all levels of the operation to a recognised specification
• Maintenance of quality control procedures and related documentation including non-conformance
• Ensure traceability and risk mitigation
• Attend Quality meeting as and when required
Technical Requirements:
• Ability to read workshop orders, BOMs & assembly instructions
• Ability to identify components with component descriptions and verify by measurement processes
• A knowledge of proper use of all tooling including air tools, pneumatic , screw drivers and torque wrenches
• Ability to use measurement equipment including dial gauge, verniers & micrometres
• Ability to use electrical measurement equipment including multi meters, tachometers, motor testing equipment and test boards
• Ability to fault find and rectify problems such as gear knocks and pressure leaks
• Ability to configure and assemble bevel helical gear sets and input bearing assemblies
• Ability to assemble back stop bearings and anti-run back devices
• Ability to use external oil fill and pressure machinery
• A detailed knowledge of quality steps and procedures applicable to the respective assembly process
• An in-depth knowledge of mounting configurations and its impact on gearbox lubrication
