Our client in Nairobi, Kenya in the Restaurant Operator industry is currently recruiting for a Treasury Accountant. The Treasury Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial resources and liquidity of our Kenya operations, overseeing all aspects of treasury operations including cash management, risk management, investment strategies and financial reporting. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent, the ability to work with complex budgets, and a familiarity with handling multi-currency transactions. The ideal candidate should also be ICT proficient, familiar with accounting software, and have at minimum 4 years of accounting experience.

Responsibilities:
Financial reporting
- Record all incoming and outgoing finances for the business
- Post and allocate receipts on accounts receivable
- Update general ledger with transactions on bank statement on daily basis
- Investigate and clear any unknown receipts paid into the current account
- Update and match the accounts payable ledger with direct debit payments made out of the account and with manual payments made outside normal payment run cycles
- Prepare and present accurate and timely treasury reports to senior management
- Maintain and analyze treasury related financial data.
Cash Management
- Daily match the bank statements and cash book to ensure that any double receipts/erroneous receipts are detected and corrected.
- Daily follow up with bank on identified credits, unexplained bank debits and ensuring all items are addressed.
- Analyze various bank charges such as guarantee fees, commission fees, interest charges, unpaid cheque charges, and other bank charges to ensure correct amounts are charged on company accounts.
- Forecast cash flow requirements and develop strategies to optimize cash positions
- Execute and oversee efficient disbursements and receipts
Risk management
- Develop investment policies and strategies for surplus cash
- Evaluate and recommend investment opportunities – short and long-term investments
- Monitor investment portfolios and track performance against benchmarks
- Use hedging to mitigate financial risks related to the currency and interest rates on the company’s cash flows and borrowings, as applicable
Debt Portfolio Management
- Manage the company’s debt portfolio including borrowing and repaying activities
Compliance
- Stay up to date with financial regulations and compliance requirements
- Ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines in treasury operations
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors during audits
Inter -bank Relationship
- Serve as the primary contact with commercial banks in cash management services, trust, custody and with business managers regarding day-to-day treasury needs
Qualifications
Education and Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Administration, Finance, Commerce or relevant field
- Professional qualification – CPA K or its equivalent
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures including IFRS and IASs.
- Demonstrable experience with preparing financial statements, management accounting (costing, unit economics)
- Demonstrated experience with complex budgets and forecasts prepared in Excel and daily and monthly monitoring of actual vs. budget
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of four (4) years’ relevant experience
- Experience handling multi-currency transactions
