Job Purpose
To oversee the pastoral care, welfare, and discipline of students within a boarding house. The House Patron and House Matron (Couple) will work collaboratively to create a nurturing, supportive, and safe environment that promotes the holistic development of all boarding students.
Key Responsibilities
Student Welfare and Pastoral Care
- Ensure the physical, emotional, and social well-being of all students in the boarding house.
- Act as primary points of contact for students, providing guidance and support in personal and academic matters.
- Monitor students’ health and liaise with medical professionals and parents as required.
- Foster a sense of belonging and community within the boarding house.
House Administration
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of the boarding house, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and orderliness.
- Maintain accurate records of students’ attendance, medical needs, and disciplinary actions.
- Coordinate with the school’s administration regarding schedules, events, and student matters.
- Oversee the management of house budgets and resources.
Discipline and Behavior Management
- Implement and enforce school policies regarding student conduct.
- Address disciplinary issues promptly and fairly, keeping detailed records of incidents.
- Promote positive behavior and mutual respect among students.
Extracurricular Activities
- Organize and supervise recreational and extracurricular activities for boarding students.
- Encourage participation in activities that promote personal growth, teamwork, and cultural awareness.
Parental Communication
- Maintain regular communication with parents or guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and well-being.
- Respond promptly to parental inquiries and concerns.
Safety and Security
- Ensure the boarding house is a safe environment, conducting regular safety checks and drills.
- Act as a fire warden or first responder during emergencies.
- Enforce curfews and supervise evening and weekend routines.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with other house staff, teachers, and administrators to ensure cohesive student support.
- Participate in school-wide events, staff meetings, and professional development sessions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or related field (preferred).
- Proven experience in pastoral care or boarding school management.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development and needs.
- Teaching experience is an added advantage.
