Overview
Our client is seeking a site-based quantity surveyor to be part of the commercial team on the healthcare project in Eastern Province-Zambia for a period of 12-15months.
As site-based quantity surveyor, you will be the eyes and ears of the commercial team to monitor progress and report to the Principal Quantity Surveyor any potential risks on the construction budget. Additionally, you will attend site meetings and from time to time represent the business.
Objective of this role
- To ensure we provide effective cost management without potential slippages
- Maintaining accurate site records and documentation of the project
Your tasks
- Understanding client requirements and work to assist client realize their vision
- Taking and recording measurements on site for cost reporting and final account
- Attend site meetings and represent the business on site
- Identifying site related risks that could potentially impact both programme and budget and reporting
- Monitoring and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Drafting and providing progress reports for submission to Client
- Coordination with the design team for analysing architectural and service drawings.
- Manage the valuation of work done and handle claims and variations.
- Preparing interim and final valuation reports.
- Conduct feasibility studies and value engineering exercises.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to optimise project outcomes and achieve value for money.
- You will also from time to time assist the commercial with other assignments other than the healthcare project as required.
Required skills and qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, construction management or a related field.
- 3-5years of experience in quantity surveying or construction management, preferably in the construction industry.
- Sound knowledge of construction industry practices, regulations and standards.
- Proficiency in cost estimation and cost management techniques.
- Familiarity with contract administration and legal aspects of construction projects.
- Proficiency in Excel, AutoCAD or any QS software in extracting quantities from the drawings.
- Ability to manage multiple project stakeholders simultaneously and priorities tasks effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with extraordinary negotiation abilities.
- Aptitude for learning and development
Preferred skills and qualifications
- Professional membership with the Zambia Institute of Quantity Surveying -ZIQS
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and environmental standards.
- Familiarity with contract law and construction contracts.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work under pressure.
