Our client in Malawi is looking for a Farm Manager to join their team in the Agriculture Industry.

The Candidate
The candidate must have been actively involved in the management of a large beef production unit. The farm has a 1,000 head cow breeding herd and operates a 2,000 head per annum feedlot. The farm herd is made up of 1,000 breading Brahman Angoni X cows and a Feed Lot unit that processes 2,000 head per year. The farm has its own abattoir and butchery processing 15 animals per day. The farm is currently also setting up 2 retails outlets selling beef under its brand.
Experience in the production of fodder crops such as lucerne, sorghum and maize silage suitable to these conditions. Experience in crop production and game ranching would be considered positively.
Qualifications and Experience
- A degree or diploma in Agriculture and Business Management is desirable.
- Held a senior management position.
- Experience with verifiable references from previous managers and farm owners.
- Computer skills must include a good level of competence in Excel and word.
- The applicant must also be strong in their understanding of farm systems, administration, and budgeting, as he will be expected to take an active role in the farm’s administrative and budget management. The farm is however supported by a qualified financial controller and administration staff who are there to assist the manager.
- The candidate must be conversant with animal feed formulation and cattle health and veterinary practices.
Responsibilities
Manage the Cattle section comprising of:
- 1,000 head Breeding Herd.
- 2,000 head per annum feedlot.
- Abattoir and butchery.
The Farm:
- At 460mts asl and receives 600mm rainfall pa.
- Comprises of 7,600ha of which 600ha is under cultivation.
- Is fully equipped with 600ha of pivot irrigation.
- Has cell phone and internet coverage.
The farm grows 600 ha. sugar beans per year. Plans to expand the irrigated area at a rate of 50 ha per year. The cattle herd is 1,000 head of breading Brahman X Angoni cows and a Feed Lot unit that processes 2,000 head per year. The farm has its own abattoir and butchery processing 15 animals per day.
